Julie Long

Intergenerational Award

Julie Long has had a long career as a teacher in ACT government and non-government primary schools.

She has also been actively involved with Scouts ACT in many roles as Cub Scout Leader and Arts Commissioner. Her enthusiasm for making reading exciting for children, and her creativity have been evident in organising and running large three-yearly Cubaree camps across 36 years for up to 1000 8-11 year olds through a variety of Arts activities. She also actively promotes Children’s Week within Scouts ACT and has encouraged many groups to successfully apply for Children’s Week grants to support their programmes. She has recently received a 40 Year Good Service Award from Scouts ACT.

 

She has also had a long and active involvement with the Children’s Book Council of Australia and is currently President of the ACT Branch and a judge for the Children’s Book of the Year Awards.
