Director-General, Education Directorate

The ACT Education Directorate is a proud sponsor of ACT Children’s Week. I am excited to join the festivities and events as we celebrate the Territory’s children and their contributions to our community.

While doing so, we will also recognise the role of ACT families, carers, educators, community workers and volunteers, who all endeavour to make a difference to the lives of our young people as we strive to give them the best start in life.

The 2024 Children’s Week national theme is drawn from the United Nations Rights of the Child Article 24, recognising children have the right to a safe and clean environment.

The ACT’s The Future of Education: An ACT Education Strategy places children at the centre of learning and was founded on the belief that every child deserves a great education. We are focused on providing healthy and comfortable teaching and learning spaces to maximise learning outcomes for all children in a clean and safe environment.

Comprehensive planning ensures schools are easy to get to, well-designed, inclusive, sustainable and safe. Engaging, sustainable playgrounds are a key focus in delivering a rich outdoor learning environment, supporting children’s physical health and wellbeing.

I thank the ACT Children’s Week Committee for their continued commitment to highlighting the important needs and rights of our children and young people.
